Tracking through the timberland

This fellow is not a follower but prefers to find his own way.  Now celebrating his 17th new year he is allowed to run free most of the time and decide where to go, and when to return home.  Old age also has some advantages.

A New Gateway to the Dogs Enclosure

Building the new enclosure with its entrance was accomplished the exact day before the first snow-fall.  The antlers above the door are leftovers from a natural feed (see picture below).  BARF eating is the only way to feed my dogs.

Canicross in the Arctic

A guest photographer and sled-dog enthusiast from Barentsburg, Svalbard;  Елена Викторовна,  took this photo of a canicross runner with a pure Chuckchi sled dog.  The Chuckchi sled dog is an ancient breed from Siberia, and possibly akin to the original working dog imported to Alaska in the early 1900s by the norwegian Leonard Seppala that later became the prototype for his Seppala huskies. Two of my pure Seppala huskies back in the mid 1990s.  Tough, hardy, stayer and enduring sled dogs.

April morning

Cold mornings, approximately minus 10 at dawn, provide a solid surface to run on. Nothing can be compared to such a fresh and crispy dayspring.  Springtime of the day and springtime of the year. It is April!
