Patrolling the Territory

Patrolling the same tracks every day make wolfdogs very territorial. Every tree has been scent-marked, every odor is known, only occational encounters with wild animals or their tracks brakes the habit. 2 years back we started to improve our forest-tracks for better skiing quality. Trees had to be removed, bushes cut away, curves straighten out and small bridges over the ditches had to be made. The end result is a trail that starts at our front-door and that makes it unnecessary to drive the car to somewhere for skiing. This has had a huge effect on my male wolfdogs. Now they will run the whole track with much more vigour and enthusiasm for speed. So much that I need to put a harness on for the pulling. Coming to the opposite end of the trail is always rewarded with running free and playing. When going to a strange territory however, the typical carefulness and awareness comes back and they will never pull. The photos are of Ax and Skarv out on an everyday run.

Winter returns.

The mellow light of a november sunday given from a sleepy sun-disc not able to climb high above the horizon this days. And the phosphorus, the morning star, lingering hours in the morning to encourage the sun to finally rise.

Noord Holland and Saarloos Greyhounds

They run like greyhounds. They are grey. They are wolfdogs. Typically flying over the dunes in a double suspended gallopp. No wonder I call them Saarloos Greywolfhounds ? ! The dogs are Amani from Doorn and Stine from Julianadorp. Thank you Ingeborg, Robbert, Marijke, Suzanne, Gerard, Stephan and Christel for a very nice weekend.

Bicycling

Bicycling is a good variety of exercise. The route can be alternated continuously to prevent boredom. We always make a stop at a lake for a drink and a swim. I am specially proud of this massive animals lighfooted and extended trot. With this gait they can go without getting exhausted.

15 years of patience

With some 15 years of patience, the assistance and help from very good friends, and with non-commercial selection of dogs I am definetely on the right track in my endeavor to produce a natural, healthy, cross-country running mate. A true connection with nature. It is a horror to see commercial interests taking advantage of this dogs just to fill their hungry pockets. And they really dont care.

Van De Kilstroom

Van De Kilstroom is the original breeding station of- and the creators of the Saarlooswolfhond. Marijke Saarloos and Gerard De Moor is running this kennel today and breeds on a small scale wolfdogs with the characteristic loyal attitude highly appreciated by wolfdog owners for many decades. I never met breeders so dedicated to their litters and offspring as Marijke and Gerard. Travelling several times to rural Scandinavia for a follow up of their production is typical for this dedicated and serious kennel-owners. Here seen at "Hardangervidda" on a summer-holliday.

Van De Kilstroom.

Obedient without training. Loyal by nature. A noble companion dog to be trusted. Taken by surprise by a flock of reindeers she sports after it at high speed, but stops at the moment I call her and within 10 sec is back by my side. This is Ax from the Kilstroom kennels. She is photographed at summer solstice this year. My most loyal dog who has inherited good old Poukins position by my side - always walking free without a leash attached.

A hot summer day on the beach.

After a 6 hour walkabout on a hot summer day in the middle of june, it is a fresh relief for the wolfdogs to take a rest on the beach. I beleive it is an advantage for the animals on such a hot day that instead of a sandy beach we found one with snow ! !

1st of May

The snow in my forest-tracks has not thawed completely yet. Presumably it will take another week. So while patiently waiting for the sun to complete the process of drying up, we can go skiing at "Blefjell". We start at dawn to get as cold snow surface as possible. Under such conditions the area is a real paradise for the dogs. It is not icy, but more like a dense and soft carpet solid enough to run on without breaking through.

Gazing over her territory

Only patches of snow remain in our running tracks. However too much and occationally too deep snow for jogging still. We expect the tracks to be available for running at approx. the 1st of may. Ax is gazing over her territory where our trodden paths still is hidden under patches of snow.

A Memorial Portrait.

Sad news was received from friends that one of the dogs born at the Nordenden Kennels has passed away at a too young age. Skog from Nordenden (Skog av Seppalaska; named by the FCI registery) was borned as a result of a conception under the conception-tree at spring equinox and full moon in 2002. With only one sibling; Skarv who still lives at Nordenen, he had a happy puppyhood with his caring mother and a protective father whom vomited his dinner to feed him every day. Skog went to France and has produced a large number of offspring highly estimated in France, The Netherlands, Belgium, Hungary, Checkia and Finland. Some breeders even talk about a "Skog Lineage". His more easy-going brother Skarv and his halfbrother Ulv will still be available for breeding, but on a more careful and discriminating level. The pictures are of Skog, then below his son Jenko and last his daughter Nia.

Spring Equinox

After a long brake during the darker months of winter, the hens again start to lay nutritious and delicious eggs. It is peculiar how close to the spring equinox they start every year. This year only 3 days prior to the equilibrium date; last year at the exact date. From now on we have half a year with days longer than the nights. The eggs are a symbol and a celebration of the spring equinox every year at Nordenden. Happy Lucid Living!!!

The spring equinox of 2002 coincided almost mystically with the full moon and is the true initiation of the Nordenden-wolfdogs. Under the "conception tree", which is the tallest black spruce in this "county", the two impressive males Skog and Skarv was conceived. They were delivered by their mother Poukin 63 days later.

Donate a New Camera

I have 100ds of action-pictures like these onces; not sharp, not well adjusted light, but good memories of my dogs in action. My Nikon Coolpix 4300 makes nice pictures of objects that are not moving and on a bright sunny day. If you want to see good quality action pictures on my blog, please contribute by donating a new camera which can manage to make better action pictures for publishing here in the future.
